Starting a blog may sound difficult to someone who has never done it before, but WordPress blogs are unbelievably simple to start and manage – as long as you know how to use WordPress. Learning how to use WordPress is just as simple as writing articles for your blog – all it requires is work and dedication. After just one week most users know how to use WordPress well enough to run a successful blog that they can be proud of. You, too, can learn how to use WordPress using the references available on the internet.

The quickest way to learn how to use WordPress is just by experimenting for yourself. Installing WordPress is quick and simple, and once you’ve got that up and running you’re just a few steps away from learning how to use WordPress. The dashboard that you are presented with is pretty self explanatory – WordPress’ developers wanted to make sure that anyone of any age and background can learn how to use WordPress within just a few hours.

Everything is appropriately labeled: to see posts or make new ones, you just click “Posts.” To add writers, authors, editors, or administrators to your blog you just click “Users.” To change settings for your blog, you just click “Settings.” Are you beginning to see how easy it is to learn how to use WordPress?

Besides just experimenting with it and learning on the fly, you can search Google for one of the many “how to use WordPress” guides. There are tutorials all over the place for the world’s most popular open source blogging platform, so even if you are stumped you can look it up. The best place to learn how to use WordPress is by reading the documentation on WordPress’ official site (WordPress.org). They have documents on all aspects on learning how to use WordPress. Whether you are trying to install a theme, you want to add plug-ins, you want to customize your blog a certain way, or want to change users’ rights, the official WordPress documentation has it.

Another option you have to learn how to use WordPress is to use unofficial references. If you just Google “how to use WordPress” or “Wordpress training,” you’ll find a plethora of useful sites. One of the best resources is iThemes.com. They have excellent WordPress tutorials that can teach a monkey how to use WordPress. Like the official WordPress documentation, most unofficial resources like iThemes offer documentation and tutorials on all aspects of WordPress – from installation to just getting started and all the way through to advanced uses. Whether you’re a new blogger or a seasoned veteran, there’s always something you can learn.

The last option is to use YouTube. Depending on what you want to learn about, YouTube always has videos that will teach you how to use WordPress. Just search for whatever you need to learn and add the word “Wordpress” to the end (ie. “Installing a theme WordPress”).

Whether you’ve never touched WordPress or you’re an expert, there’s always more features you can learn about!

WordPress 2.7 : The Inside Track

WordPress have given the interface a refresh and add some great new functionality. The interface remains intuitive and easy to use even though some settings have been relocation.

The change in interface is something that may require some users to undertake some WordPress training in order to access all the many features of it.The principles remain the same, in most cases, so you should be able to get to grips with it quickly.  There will be the occasional moment where you wonder where a particular setting has been moved to, but usually you can find them easily.

As soon as you enter the administration panel of this new version of WordPress you will see the new dashboard.  This gives you an at a glance overview of your blog stats, including posts, comments and more. This provides you with rapid access to the command areas of your blog.

The dashboard appears to be a big hit - the quick click functionality of it makes it easy for you to approve or delete comments, change your theme or even "Quick Press" - a quick way to publish a new post.

The nav bar down the left hand side allows you to access all the settings and features of WordPress.

Perhaps my favourite feature of WordPress 2.7 is that you can upgrade plugins automatically from within the WordPress console. The need to download and FTP new version of plugins has been removed.

All you do is click the install link and enter your FTP information. It doesn't appear to work correctly on every webhost.A lot of this depends upon your webhost and their default file permissions.  Most webhosts are ok, but there are a couple it doesn't work properly on.

The one downside of this new version is that not all the WordPress plugins have been tested on it.  It does warn you about this when you go to install a new plugin, but it will install anyway.

To be fair, most plugins will work fine with this version of WordPress. There should be very few plugins which will cause any problems.

WordPress 2.7 is a fantastic upgrade and well worth your time.It is extremely powerful, fully features and some well thought out enhancements.  You may need to invest in some WordPress tutorials in order to really get to grips with it, but you will soon love the power it puts at your finger tips.
