A Photo Renamer Can Save Time and Money For Your Business

February 8th, 2010

Have you been in the photography business for a while or are you just starting a new business from the ground up? You most likely have hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of pictures in your inventory that you have taken. In the past, this would have translated to books and boxes all over the place filled with pictures. Thanks to advances in technology now all those thousands of pictures can be on one small hard drive. Yet this new form of putting away your pictures still has some organizational snags where you’re going to need a photo renamer.

Name Issues

As you upload pictures from all of your cameras into the computer, you may notice that all of the titles don’t quite match up. Each type of camera chooses a different way to title the files. Once they are in your computer this could have you going all over the place to find pictures that should be together. Trying to change all the files names one at a time so that they match is going to take a lot of time which is also money since you won’t be able to take pictures during this time. But if you have a program that will rename photos as a group, you can save a lot of time. With a couple of clicks to highlight the photos you want to change the program will then do the rest of the work for you.

Picture Dating

You may find some missing information when the computer pulls in your photographs. This could mean you are lacking date information when it comes to your photographs. This can make them harder to go back and find in the future. With the use of a rename photo program, this doesn’t have to be a problem as a quick highlight of the files and click on information change will allow you to date all of them.

Text Alterations

Labelling hundreds of pictures then finding out something was spelled wrong can be quite frustrating. How much time did you waste trying to fix each and every file name that was wrong?

This is no longer a worry with a good photo renamer program. The program has a find and replace text feature that will let you change them all quickly.

Picture Information

Amateur photographers just take pictures and save them, but professionals want a lot more information such as exposure and shutter speed. Adding all of the detailed information to an entire series of pictures is quite easy with a good renamer program as you can highlight the files and add the information to all of them simultaneously.

Keeping Track Of Your Digital Photos With The Help Of A Picture Renamer

November 21st, 2009

In the “old days” when you wanted to sort out all of the photographs you had of your family that meant you had to go through boxes and envelopes of pictures that have been collected over months or years. Thankfully, technology is now allowing us to quickly load all of our pictures into our personal computers at home.

But there is still some frustration that can arise even when you are organizing pictures this way. If you take lots of pictures at each and every juncture, chances are you’ve had to spend hours organizing them and probably wished you could rename photos with less fuss.

Generally, when you pull the pictures off of a camera, they are given a filename by the camera that is not something you’ll recognize. Generally, the filename will be a bunch of letters and numbers. When it comes to organizing, this won’t help you.

So, instead, you will often end up having to go picture by picture trying to find a specific one you are looking for and the rest of the pictures in that series. However, using a photo renamer program will allow you to change all of those filenames to one’s you want.

It’s not hard to do.

Once you go into the program, you will highlight the names of all of the pictures that are in the group that you want to make a change to. In this case let’s use the example of your set of summer vacation pictures. After you have found all of the pictures and highlighted all of their names you can quickly tell the program that you want it to rename all of them to something more useful, for example “Italian summer”. The program will then take over and create all new file names for each of them with that name as the first part of the title you will see.

Often, real photographers who are sorting through their images are more worried about the details behind the photograph then what the picture is of. This may mean they’re more interested in the exposure or color profile of the photo and need a picture renamer program that will help them sort photos this way. Many digital photos are saved, by the camera, with invisible tags attached that store all of these details. You should be able to use these tags to sort all of your pictures out if you are using the right program.
