How to fix a slow computer in less than 15 minutes?

August 31st, 2009
Comments Off

There are many ways to optimize a computer and this article covers simple steps to make any computer faster quickly. Implementing step 1 or step 2 should take no more than 15 minutes and will work for both PC and Mac users.

Step 1 -  Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. The registry is similar to the nervous system of the computer and its function is to connect software hardware and computer files. Typically the computer registry becomes more prone to errors over time, is frequently corrupted, and this slows down the computer. A simple step is to locate then repair the errors in the registry. Cleaning the registry manually is possible but not recommended, as this method requires specific knowledge of the registry structure and its functions. Using a registry cleaner software is a faster, more reliable option to eliminate errors, redundant files, incorrect links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on compare registry fix software for more information.

Step 2 – Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. This happens particularly often, when peer to peer networks are being used to download music and videos for example. An easy solution to improve the response time of any computer is to run an anti spyware or adware program which will scan, remove then block adware and spyware. It helps to test the relevant anti spyware or adware program by downloading a trial version as most of them are free. The overall effectiveness of the software is obviously the main feature to consider, however other features are also important such as Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. The problem with many viruses is not only the damage they cause to computer files but also the amount of resources which they use and waste, for example RAM and disk space. In order to overcome these problems, as well as optimise performance, users should run the latest version of the best anti-virus programs. In the end, they will also be in a stronger position to improve their computer performance.

Step 4 – Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed.  Another simple step to improve computer speed is to stop programs launching automatically. These simple steps usually produce small improvements.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. Computer speed also depend on the free space on the hard disk, as temporary files are placed there by computer software. This frees up space for the computer to swap files, which is used particularly when the operating system starts using virtual memory once it has run out of RAM. The system can slow down significantly in that event, if space on the hard disk is insufficient. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows help scan for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance, your hard disk may be large enough but too fragmented and some disk sectors may have been damaged. Defragmenting the hard disk is another action, which will improve the response time of any computer.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This reduces the RAM which is available for other programs. Computers frequently run out of RAM after a while. In order to overcome this, ugrading the RAM is probably necessary. Alternatively running certain programs simultaneously should also be avoided, this option is of course free.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. To overcome this problem, replacing the fan is the most pragmatic solution. The effect should be immediate as this will increase the flow of air through the computer, thereby reducing the computer’s temperature and increasing its speed as a result.

What You Need to Know about Spyware Removal Programs

August 18th, 2009
Comments Off

Prior to placing all your trust in a product that claims to be one hundred percent successful at removing spyware, keep in mind the fact that even the most effective adware and spyware removal software can only remove in the range of 60 to 90 percent of malicious software concerns. Therefore, if you come across an organization boasting that its software program can carry out one hundred percent spyware protection you should remain cynical. A lot of businesses that are engaged in the business of eliminating malicious software are really quite brazen concerning the assertions that they make.

As a result you must be very careful when you embark on your pursuit for anti-spyware products. When you research these different spyware protection programs ahead of time you will be in a better position to get hold of the best goods. As a matter of fact, you could be quite astonished to find out that assessments of these computer programs have established that a good number of of the spyware protection programs available on the market today are not adequately prepared to beat malware.

Consequently, if you innocently go ahead and spend a lot of money on a program for removing spyware you’ll soon discover to your complete disappointment that you’re not being safeguarded in the manner that you would like or even as claimed by the manufacturers of the programs. The only upside is that your software will notify you when things go wrong, though in some situations specific problems will remain undetected. As a result you’ll forever be defenseless against a hidden malware that’s working its evil on your PC rather covertly and there’s not a thing that you can do to prevent it.

What is even more maddening is the fact that even once you find a concern with your equipment you’ll then discover that only advanced spyware removal software programs will enable you to clean up your equipment. This means more cost and maybe less than acceptable results.

Another component of spyware removal is a thing known as false positive. This is when your spyware protection software announces having discovered malicious software on your computer when really there is nothing there to worry about. This tactic is sometimes used by certain spyware removal computer programs in a bid to induce you to buy an additional product.

The good news is, for someone wanting to be taught how to remove spyware, you can find free spyware removal software that are able to defend your computer. Certainly, the protection that you get might not be completely foolproof, however you are at least allowed to experience a bit of comfort that you have something with which to fight malware for which you didn’t have to spend a thing.

Sometimes, your PC might begin to slow down or show other signs that things aren’t quite right. If that’s the case, it’s quite possible that it has been infected with a virus, adware or spyware, or another kind of malware. If you are not alert you may well, therefore, inadvertently end up sending out emails that are also contaminated by some type of malicious software. These email messages might arrive in the inbox of all your contacts which, of course, can then result in further and unnecessary harm. Or, you may unexpectedly discover that your confidentiality has been invaded and someone has been able to access your private details.

There are many other horrible consequences that can result from having spyware on your system. So without waiting another minute you must make use of a spyware removal program that will make an attempt to discover the problem and then do away with it.

A processor that has been infected with spyware or viruses is one that will break down and result in other forms of misery. The sooner you find some anti-spyware software to deal with the situation the better off you’ll be. The most appropriate software program is one that knows how to uncover all manner of adware and spyware. Then it can get rid of the problem to ensure that your processor starts running properly once again.

As for removing viruses from your equipment, you don’t utilize spyware removal programs. Rather, you have to use special anti-virus programs. However, anti-virus programs don’t necessarily have the capacity to uncover the existence of spyware. In that case there is no remaining choice than to find some decent software that will immediately begin searching for the existence of various forms of malware.

You can opt for programs that are completely free of charge or those which you have to pay for. The main problem with using free programs is that they are not necessarily safe and therefore you will want to make use of them only on the advice of someone you trust.

The perfect spyware removal software program is one that can effectively hinder impending intrusions of spyware while simultaneously discovering and eliminating all existing spyware from your computer. With so many different programs to pick from, you should make a point of investigating your options so you will be able to recognize a good quality product. Of course, all of these computer programs work pretty much the same way. It’s just that some software is more effective at discovering and getting rid of a broader range of spyware than others.

Nowadays, the challenge of spyware tainted computers has been acknowledged both by the government as well as by the community of programmers. Together they are setting about the job of developing ever more efficient and effective spyware removal programs. It’s in your best interests to learn how to remove spyware from your computer.

Spyware Prevention? Adopt These Three Habits!

June 19th, 2009
Comments Off

In order to protect their personal information, most users must change their behaviour when browsing the internet. In this article, we examine three powerful habits which internet users should develop to safeguard their personal information.

Adware Vs Spyware - The definition of adware is simply that of any type of software package that automatically plays, displays or download advertisements on your computer. Some adware are also known as spyware (privacy-invasive software), that obtain and share information from computer users without their knowledge or consent. The main reason for learning about blocking spyware is that they can help third parties steal key information. Click on how to remove adware for more information.

Habit No 1 – Avoid Freeware. Free content (song, movies, document etc) will always be tempting for many users who see them as a bargain. Practically though, users may end up getting into more issues than they bargained for, when using freeware and peer to peer programs. Frequently, downloading these software also installs dangerous software on computers as well.

Prudence always work to the users advantage in the long run and with this in mind, users should only download freeware from trusted sources only.

Habit No 2 – Ignore Pop Ups. Like many, you may have come across popup ads, clicked on them and unknowingly opened up your computer to spyware and adware threats. You should probably think of using popup blockers and fortunately some of them are free and can also be downloaded from trusted sources, like the MSN and Google toolbars. A serious limitation with these freeware is that they fail to deal with threats which are already installed on the user’s system. Click on block spyware for more information.

Habit No 3 – Be sure of what you install -You may be wondering also how you even exposed your computer to spyware threats in the first place. The answer may be surprising to you: Often minor tasks which are routinely performed can jeopardise the integrity of your system. For instance, you may be browsing a site and coming across a dialogue box that says you need to install a program. Too many users blindly accept any free download that come their way and unknowingly install adware and spyware on their systems. Sadly many freeware today are packaged with adware and freeware. We hope that in the furture you will follow our advice and download software from trusted sources only. It is highly advisable not to download programs without prior knowledge of their function. Be particularly cautious when you are visiting unfamiliar sites and are instructed to download something.

How to fix any slow computer in less than 15 minutes

May 26th, 2009
Comments Off

There are many ways to speed up computers and improve their performance, this article covers simple steps that anyone can follow. Implementing either of the first two steps in this article should take less than 15 minutes using a PC or Mac.

Step 1 -  Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. One of the main functions of the registry is to connect software, hardware and computer files. For this reason the registry is often referred to as the computer’s nervous system. Over time, errors occur and this slows down computers, frequently their registry become corrupted. A straightforward step is to locate any errors in the registry then repair them. Despite the fact that it is possible to repair the registry manually in theory, this method is not recommended. The main reason for this, is that it requires strong knowledge of the structure of the registry as well as its functions. Registry fix software are a faster, more reliable alternative to correct errors, remove unused files, any incorrect links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on fix computer registry for more information.

Step 2 – Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. This usually happens when peer to peer networks are involved, for example when downloading videos and music. One of the simplest solutions to improve any computer’s speed is to use an anti spyware or adware software to scan, remove and block these unwanted threats. It helps to test the relevant anti spyware or adware program by downloading a trial version as most of them are free. Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and of course the overall effectiveness of the software are the main features to consider. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Computer viruses must be deleted for two reasons, firstly they often damage files, secondly they tend to waste memory and disk space. By running the latest version of the best anti-virus programs, users should overcome these problems and be in a better position to improve their computer performance.

Step 4 – Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed.  Alternatively, stopping programs to launch automatically can also improve the performance of any computer. These simple tasks generally produce marginal improvements.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. Computer speed also depend on the free space on the hard disk, as temporary files are placed there by computer software. This free space also enables your computer to swap files as the computers starts using virtual memory (when it runs out of RAM). In that event, users can experience a reduction in speed, if too little space is available on the hard disk. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows , can also help check for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance the hard disk may be too fragmented and some of its sectors may be damaged, and this can create problems even if the hard drive is large enough. Using a defragmentation program will also improve any computer’s speed.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This reduces the amount of memory available for other programs. Running out of RAM too fast is not uncommon and users who have this problem should consider upgrading the memory on their computer. Alternatively running certain programs simultaneously should also be avoided, this option is of course free.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. The best solution is often to replace the fan, this overcomes the problem by increasing the air flow through the computer thereby reducing its temperature and ultimately improving reponse times.
