Tips to Improve Windows Vista Performance
Do you find your Windows Vista’s performance too slow? Don’t panic. This does not automatically equate to your system being infected by a virus. If you’ve been careful, chances are you only need to perform a few simple steps to improve the performance of your Windows Vista.
Disk Space
Before trying to tweak Vista itself, you might first want to start off by freeing disk space in your hard drive. The performance of your Windows Vista will get better by uninstalling a few unused programs. You may also want to try the Disk Cleanup option by right-clicking a hard drive, going to Properties and choosing the Disk Cleanup button. What this does is it calculates the amount of free space you can have by allowing you to delete unnecessary file such as Temporary Internet Files.
GUI
The Vista’s GUI is the next one on your list, wherein you will modify it to slash some time consuming processes. Basically, one of the reasons why Vista is so attractive is because of its high-quality GUI (Graphical User Interface) in comparison with the other Windows versions. This function,
however, is also the reason for Vista’s slow performance since it takes more time to get ready. So if you value performance more than the GUI, you can change this by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing “Personalize and clicking the “Window Color and Appearance.” This will lead you to the system’s transparency feature wherein you can choose whether you want it disabled or not.
Defragment
Defragmenting is also another choice. What this does is it rearranges your files in a more systematic manner that would allow your PC to easily
access the file within seconds that you give the command. A system with poorly
arranged data usually slows down because it takes the PC longer time to locate the
file you are looking for. You can do this by right-clicking the hard drive of your
choice, clicking Properties, Tools and the Defragment Now button. This may take a
while so be patient with the process. Repeat the
process if you have two or more hard drives.
Tweaks and Utilities
Also, there are programs specifically designed to enhance the Vista’s performance. One of these includes the MZ Vista Force that basically cleans up junk files and allows you to modify different settings to improve the system. However, note that downloading from the internet always poses risks to your PC, stressing the need for an updated antivirus. Make sure that you always perform a virus scan when downloading any type of program or when using a pen drive.
