Keeping Track Of Your Digital Photos With The Help Of A Picture Renamer

November 21st, 2009

In the “old days” when you wanted to sort out all of the photographs you had of your family that meant you had to go through boxes and envelopes of pictures that have been collected over months or years. Thankfully, technology is now allowing us to quickly load all of our pictures into our personal computers at home.

But there is still some frustration that can arise even when you are organizing pictures this way. If you take lots of pictures at each and every juncture, chances are you’ve had to spend hours organizing them and probably wished you could rename photos with less fuss.

Generally, when you pull the pictures off of a camera, they are given a filename by the camera that is not something you’ll recognize. Generally, the filename will be a bunch of letters and numbers. When it comes to organizing, this won’t help you.

So, instead, you will often end up having to go picture by picture trying to find a specific one you are looking for and the rest of the pictures in that series. However, using a photo renamer program will allow you to change all of those filenames to one’s you want.

It’s not hard to do.

Once you go into the program, you will highlight the names of all of the pictures that are in the group that you want to make a change to. In this case let’s use the example of your set of summer vacation pictures. After you have found all of the pictures and highlighted all of their names you can quickly tell the program that you want it to rename all of them to something more useful, for example “Italian summer”. The program will then take over and create all new file names for each of them with that name as the first part of the title you will see.

Often, real photographers who are sorting through their images are more worried about the details behind the photograph then what the picture is of. This may mean they’re more interested in the exposure or color profile of the photo and need a picture renamer program that will help them sort photos this way. Many digital photos are saved, by the camera, with invisible tags attached that store all of these details. You should be able to use these tags to sort all of your pictures out if you are using the right program.
